MEET JANE

Jane Hancock:
A creative life.
From more
than one side.

Hi! I’m Jane! An award-winning filmmaker, writer, actor and London acting coach. I teach, coach and advise on creative projects internationally.

I live in London, where you’ll usually find me looking for a great flat white or at home with my cat, Jimmy.

My work
informs how
I teach.

Over the years I’ve worked as a casting director, producer and production associate, as well as an actor, writer and director. I’ve pitched to Telefilm Canada and CBC, and developed concepts with independent production companies.

I’ve led screen departments at ArtsEd and Identity School of Acting. That combination of creative practice and education shapes how I work: practical, personal and responsive to the person in front of me.

Through Driving Force Acting Studio’s acting classes in London and online, I help actors build consistent skills across screen, stage and auditions. In individual sessions, I also support writers and creatives developing their own work.

Where did the teacher learn?

I hold a Masters with Distinction in Dramatic Writing from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

My training has also taken me to York University in Toronto, the Canadian College of Performing Arts and the New York Film Academy’s Universal Studios campus.

I’m an alumna of Canada’s Women in the Director’s Chair programme, supported by NBC, where I developed a feature-film script and pitch.

I’ve worked across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, and continue to work in acting, teaching, voice-over, filmmaking and freelance writing.

EXPERIENCE

My writing is focused on characters you rarely see.

My writing is drawn to dynamic female roles and stories with an alternative perspective. From my first short films to new theatre and television projects, that curiosity keeps me making work.
